The Guide to Summer Fabrics
With the warmer months here to stay - we compiled a guide for you not only showcasing what types of fabric you should be wearing, but also how you should be wearing them.
An obvious light-weight fabric choice, and a favorite which is why we put it right at the top. Linen is more breathable than cotton, and has a much higher moisture absorbency rate. The lack of elasticity in linen allows it to quickly absorb any moisture on the body - and new tighter woven linen fabrics are being made to decrease the amount of wrinkles.
How to Wear: Linen pants should be worn slightly tapered with a cuff. Pair with a light shirt, either solid or with a stripe pattern, and a linen jacket - which can be single or double breasted. Double breasted is much more on trend this season, with a wide lapel - as seen at Pitti Uomo last month. Our Solbiati Linen Sand Suit is the perfect double breasted linen suit, or for a separate piece, go with our Loro Piana Summer Trousers.
Another obvious summer fabric choice - but can be a more daunting to wear. Seersucker's natural pucker holds the fabric farther away from the skin creating a cooler effect on the wearer. That combined with the fact that the fabric is incredibly light-weight means that you need this fabric in your summer wardrobe.
How to Wear: A full seersucker suit with a white button down is a great polished look for the office or a summer wedding. Wear more casually in the form of a seersucker tapered pant, or as a short sleeve button down paired with shorts. Our Zegna Seersucker Suit is the ultimate summer suit, and our Solbiati Seersucker Chinos are the most comfortable summer trouser that you can wear with virtually anything.
One of the softest fabrics you could wear on your body, Jersey Cotton is a single knit fabric that is super flexible and elastic. Known to drape well, and breath easily it's a great shirting fabric or for cooler evening, a pullover option.
How to Wear: Our Jersey Cotton Henley comes in short sleeve and long sleeve. Pair with jeans, shorts, or chinos for an effortless laid back look.
